Preparing for the Big Date

Preparing Yourself for the Big Date
You should approach your first date with a sense of fun. No matter what happens, you're going to have a great story to tell. That holds true if it goes wonderful or not so wonderful. Either way, you want to make a good first impression. Here are some suggestions for how to prepare yourself for the big date.
Find Some Conversation Starters
Although you might have found it easy to send emails to your prospective date, that doesn't mean the conversation will flow freely on your first actual date. You both might be a little nervous. That's why you need to be prepared with some conversation starters. Don't open with, "What are your views on the current administration?" In fact, keep politics off the table. Instead, talk about hot topics as in what is trending on Google. You should also have your "go to" funny stories at the ready. This could include a previous date that didn't go so well. However, you don't want to open up the floodgates of discussing your ex-partners. Save that for much later.
Get into a Good Physical Space
If you regularly hit the gym or the yoga studio, then make sure you stick with your routine especially the morning of your date. On the other hand, you don't want to go on a five-mile hike hours before meeting up. Try to get yourself in a good physical space by eating right and getting rest leading up to the date. Actually, you should be doing all of that even without the date!
Line Up Your Outfit
The day before the date is when you need to pull out what you're going to wear. That way, if you have a stain on your favorite outfit, then you can deal with that with plenty of time to spare. You don't want to get into a situation where you're scrambling to throw something together at the last minute. That kind of frenzy will carry over into the date.
Do Some Primping
You want to look good, so do what makes you feel relaxed. That could mean a nice soak in a tub or an early morning session at the nail salon. As you get ready for the date, remember you're essentially meeting a stranger. You don't know if they are allergic to perfumes or colognes so go easy on the sprays. Before you head out, a final flossing and teeth brushing will do the trick.
As you get ready, put on your favorite playlist. Dance around if necessary. The idea is to loosen up and not approach this date as "make or break." After all, how many other potential dates are waiting for you at your online dating site?
Give Yourself Time to be On Time
You don't want to show up late for a first date. Weather and traffic are the two big things that could slow you down so plan accordingly. Don't let getting dressed at the last minute or being stuck on the phone with a friend become an excuse. Give yourself time to show up relaxed and energized.
