I Want Dating helps Canuck men and women find a date, hookup, or partner, whether you’re seeking same-sex or opposite-sex matches. You’ll find plenty of messaging options, search filters, a straightforward and short signup process, and a lot of emphasis on photos and videos. Although signup is easy, the site itself is confusing to use and difficult to navigate, without a lot of clear information.
I Want Dating will send you a daily email with 3-6 suggested profiles chosen according to your age and gender requirements. There’s not much attempt at matching you with a compatible partner. I Want Dating is really aimed at Canadians looking for casual dates or hookups—you won’t find any personality quizzes or compatibility questions.
If you want to find a match on I Want Dating, you’ll have to browse the profiles or use the search filter. There are plenty of filters to look for men who have a particular hair or eye color; men with your ideal build and ethnicity; and also narrow it down to men who are a certain distance from your location. There’s also a filter for marital status, so if you’d like a guy who’s cheating on his partner, you can do that too. You can ask to only be shown men who have photos or videos in their profile—which is just as well, because far too many users don’t have any images at all.
I Want Dating does have a cute feature called the Like Gallery. This tool shows you one profile at a time—kinda like Tinder—and you can select the heart or the X icon to show if you find him cute or not. Choosing the heart puts you in touch with them through I Want Dating messaging; choose the X, and you’ll be shown another profile. Easy.
Another plus to I Want Dating is the many messaging options. You can choose from a video message, photo message, or regular text message. You’ll be able to see when the recipient got and viewed your message by checking the check marks, similar to WhatsApp messages. I Want Dating also allows you to send a Wink to another user, or a Flirtcast. Flirtcasts are short messages that are sent to a bunch of users at once, as a way of sparking conversation. You can write your own Flirtcast, or use a preset text if you’re feeling tongue-tied.
Although I Want Dating has so many messaging tools, you can’t access them all as a free member. Free members can only send text messages and are limited to 5 a day.
I Want Dating is so easy and quick to join. You’ll be asked for your email address, to create a password, and to enter a confirmation code that’s sent by email. That’s all, now you're in! Once you have an account set up, you can upload a photo and enter some basic personal information. You'll be asked about your ethnicity, marital status, and body type, as well as your hair color. You don't even need to think about how to describe these—you just need to pick an option from the drop-down menu. You can come back to your profile later and add more details, like tattoos, whether or not you smoke, and eye color, as well as more photos and videos.
If you’re bored of sites that ask for long questionnaires about your personality, leisure pursuits, and state of mind, you’ll be glad that I Want Dating doesn’t need any of that. The closest you’ll get is a short, 140-character status where you can write anything you’d like.
One of the confusing issues to I Want Dating is that there are different prices for men and women. It's not easy to compare them because you'll only be shown the prices for your gender.
Women are offered 3 ‘upgrade' options:
|Basic membership||Chataholic upgrade||Extra security upgrade||Premium Dater|
Men are just given prices for becoming a full member. When you’re a full member, you can see the full profiles of women users, send unlimited messages, and use all messaging tools.
Although it's super easy to sign up to I Want Dating, the site itself isn't so user-friendly. A lot of tools are given 2 different names in 2 different places. For example, the Friends section is also called Favorites, and Verified Members are also called Trusted Members. It takes a bit of browsing before you find the Help section, and the part of your profile called Status doesn't seem to get shown at all.
Another issue is that male users can't see a woman's full profile unless they are paid members—but women can see every man’s full profile. That means that male users have to pay for a membership to see the photos, ‘Looking for’ information, and videos that women share, but women can get all of that for free.
I Want Dating does use SSL encryption, but beyond that, you’re kind of on your own. I Want Dating makes it clear that it’s up to you to check for suspicious or unsafe users, and to report or block them. The site doesn’t make any commitment to removing their profiles, though blocking them just means that they can't contact you and that other users can see that you’ve found them suspicious.
There’s an option to become a Verified Member, confusingly also called a Trusted Member. Verified Members have been checked as being real people and not bots, but I Want Dating doesn't run any background or criminal checks on the users. You'll have to scope out yourself whether you trust another member.
I Want Dating does have 2 different extra-security options, 1 for men and 1 for women. As mentioned above, women can pay extra for an Extra Security upgrade. Men aren’t offered that option. Instead they can choose to turn on Safe Mode. With Basic Safe Mode, blocked members can't get in touch with you and are removed from your search results. Under Full Safe Mode, only verified members can make contact. When Safe Mode is off entirely, anyone can contact you. Safe Mode for men is part of the free membership package.
If you browse the site for long enough, eventually you’ll find the FAQ section. It answers most of your basic questions about using I Want Dating. If you need more help, you'll have to use the online web form to contact customer support. There's no other way to get in touch with I Want Dating's customer representatives and no indication about how long it will take before someone responds.
If you're looking for a casual date or hookup, I Want Dating could be suitable for you. There are plenty of users across Canada, and lots of ways to get in touch with them. It's a fun and flirty site, with emphasis on photos, videos, and suggestive content. If you want to find your one true love, or want a site that helps connect you with someone compatible to your interests and personality, I Want Dating is not a good choice.
